"Pirates of the Caribbean" |
A wonderfully delightful movie! Lots of fun. Johnny Depp was very funny. And the story was pretty good, too. I was reminded of the Tim Powers book 'On Stranger Tides'. But I suppose any story involving pirates, magic and skeletons would. The book was better, but isn't it always? I was skeptical of any movie based on a Disneyland ride. But it was pretty good stuff.-Peder

Hi, Peder,Haven't seen it yet, but probably will. Thanks for recommendation. I was one of the 3 people in the world who liked "Showgirls," based on the Las Vegas showgirl life. Seemed just a campy hyperbolic version of what is probably pretty much real life in Las Vegtas. That movie messed up Elizabeth Berkeley's career. Not a bad actress, actually. --Al

Al, it pains me, but I'll have to disagree with you. Showgirls had lots of pretty nudity, but just plain awful writing. But...I saw it years ago, and maybe I'm being too harsh. I may have to rent it again. And if it's as bad as I remember, I can always turn the sound off.-Peder

I just saw "Pirates" for the 2nd time. An excellent movie. Johnny Depp really "makes" the movie. I'll probably see it again when it comes out on video. Pay attention to all of the fun dialogue.Willis

I agree completely about Depp. Very funny stuff. I've always thought him talented, but this is the first time I thought he was hilarious.-Peder

Mike and Al, I'll try to make this one brief. It's good! There was a new deckhand on board the pirate ship. The captain assigned him to a grizzled old scalawag to teach him the ropes. After a few days of getting used to the old pirate the new hand said,"Excuse me, mate, but I notice you have a hook for your right hand and a patch where you have an eye missing. Can you tell me what happened?" "Aye, matie," the old salt replied. "I was swept overboard in a storm and a shark got me hand as I fought for my life". "I see," mused the new mate,"but what about your eye?" "Ah, yes. A seagull pooped in it", said the pirate. "You mean seagull poop took out your eye?", exclaimed the youngster in disbelief. "Well, you see," said the old gob reflectively, "it was me first day with the hook!"!!! :~D Willis
